في مفاجأة قلبت كل التوقعات، اكتشف زوجان أمريكيان أن رحلتهما السياحية انتهت داخل غرفة الولادة، بعدما أخبر الأطباء الأم بأنها دخلت المخاض، رغم أنها لم تكن تعلم طوال الأشهر الماضية أنها حامل.

وكانت لورين سيوينسكي وزوجها غاري ديفيد غلين قد وصلا إلى ولاية فلوريدا تمهيداً لانطلاق رحلة بحرية، قبل أن تشعر لورين بآلام شديدة في البطن دفعتها إلى التوجه إلى مستشفى «إتش سي إيه فلوريدا براندون» للاطمئنان على حالتها الصحية.

لكن المفاجأة كانت داخل قسم الطوارئ، حيث أبلغها الأطباء بأنها ليست مصابة بوعكة صحية كما اعتقدت، بل دخلت بالفعل في مرحلة المخاض، وأن ولادة طفلها باتت وشيكة.

وبعد ساعات قليلة، أنجبت طفلاً أطلقت عليه اسم «سيباستيان»، لتنتهي الرحلة التي كانت مقررة إلى المكسيك بالعودة إلى المنزل بصحبة فرد جديد في العائلة.

وأكد الزوجان أنهما لم يلاحظا طوال الأشهر الماضية أي مؤشرات واضحة تدل على وجود حمل، كما لم يتوقعا أن تكون آلام البطن التي شعرت بها لورين بداية لعملية الولادة.

ورغم غرابة الواقعة، فإن الأطباء يشيرون إلى أن هذه الحالة معروفة طبياً باسم «الحمل الخفي»، وهي حالة قد لا تدرك فيها المرأة أنها حامل إلا في مراحل متأخرة، وقد لا يُكتشف الحمل إلا مع بدء المخاض.

وتوضح مراجعة علمية نُشرت في دورية «كيس ريبورتس إن وومنز هيلث» أن دراسة سكانية أُجريت في برلين أظهرت أن نحو حالة حمل واحدة من بين كل 475 حالة لا تُكتشف حتى الأسبوع الـ20، فيما تبقى حالة واحدة تقريباً من كل 2500 حالة دون تشخيص حتى موعد الولادة.

ويُرجع الباحثون ذلك إلى عدة عوامل، من أبرزها غياب أعراض الحمل المعتادة أو ضعفها، أو استمرار نزيف يشبه الدورة الشهرية، أو عدم بروز البطن بشكل واضح، إضافة إلى تفسير حركة الجنين على أنها اضطرابات في الجهاز الهضمي، وهو ما قد يؤخر اكتشاف الحمل حتى لحظة الولادة.

But the surprise came in the emergency department, where doctors informed her that she was not suffering from an illness as she had thought, but was actually in labor, and that the birth of her baby was imminent.

Just a few hours later, she gave birth to a baby boy whom she named “Sebastian,” ending the trip that was planned to Mexico with the return home accompanied by a new family member.

The couple confirmed that they had not noticed any clear signs of pregnancy in the past months, nor did they expect that the abdominal pain Lauren felt was the beginning of labor.

Despite the strangeness of the incident, doctors point out that this condition is medically known as “cryptic pregnancy,” a situation where a woman may not realize she is pregnant until late stages, and the pregnancy may only be discovered with the onset of labor.

A scientific review published in the journal “Case Reports in Women’s Health” indicates that a population study conducted in Berlin showed that about one case of pregnancy in every 475 goes undetected until the 20th week, while approximately one in every 2500 cases remains undiagnosed until the time of delivery.

Researchers attribute this to several factors, the most notable being the absence or weakness of typical pregnancy symptoms, the continuation of bleeding resembling a menstrual period, or the lack of a clearly protruding belly, in addition to interpreting fetal movement as gastrointestinal disturbances, which may delay the discovery of pregnancy until the moment of delivery.
