ترمب: تعيين توم باراك مبعوثاً لسورية والعراق – أخبار السعودية

أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، اليوم (الأحد)، تعيين سفير واشنطن لدى تركيا توم باراك مبعوثاً خاصاً إلى سورية والعراق، وذلك بعد يوم من إعلان وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو انتهاء مهامه كمبعوث خاص لدى سورية.

وكتب ترمب على منصته «تروث سوشيال»: «يسرني أن أعلن أن سفير الولايات المتحدة لدى تركيا توم باراك، الذي قام بعمل متميز، سيتم تعيينه مبعوثاً رئاسياً خاصاً إلى سورية، وكذلك مبعوثاً رئاسياً خاصاً إلى العراق، فيما نواصل تعزيز تعاوننا الاستراتيجي مع حكومتي البلدين، وتستمر علاقتنا بهما في النمو».

وأشار ترمب إلى أن «توم سيواصل مهامه كسفير لدى تركيا، وسيعمل بدعم كامل من وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية»، معرباً عن تقديره للعمل الذي قام به توم باراك، واستعداده المستمر لخدمة بلاده.

وكان روبيو قد أعلن أمس عبر حسابه على منصة «إكس» انتهاء مهمة باراك في سورية، وقال إنه لا يعني ابتعاده عن ملفات المنطقة.

وأشار إلى أنه سيواصل أداء دور قيادي بارز ضمن إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترمب في ملفي سورية والعراق معاً، مشيداً بأدائه خلال الفترة الماضية، واصفاً جهوده بأنها «لا تُقدّر بثمن»، وأن خبرته الواسعة وعلاقاته الممتدة وفهمه العميق لأجندة «أمريكا أولاً» ستظل عوامل مؤثرة في تحقيق أهداف واشنطن السياسية في الشرق الأوسط.

وأشار روبيو إلى أن الإدارة الأمريكية تعوّل على خبرات باراك في المرحلة القادمة، خصوصاً في الملفات الإقليمية المعقدة التي تتداخل فيها المصالح الأمريكية مع التطورات السياسية والأمنية في المنطقة.

وكان توم باراك قد عُين سفيراً للولايات المتحدة لدى تركيا في مايو 2025، قبل أن يُكلّف في الوقت ذاته بمتابعة الملف السوري بصفة مبعوث خاص، ليتولى أحد أكثر الملفات حساسية في السياسة الخارجية الأمريكية بالشرق الأوسط.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced today (Sunday) the appointment of Washington’s ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, as a special envoy to Syria and Iraq, just a day after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the end of his duties as special envoy to Syria.

Trump wrote on his platform “Truth Social”: “I am pleased to announce that the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, who has done an outstanding job, will be appointed as a Presidential Special Envoy to Syria, as well as a Presidential Special Envoy to Iraq, as we continue to strengthen our strategic cooperation with the governments of both countries, and our relationship with them continues to grow.”

Trump noted that “Tom will continue his duties as ambassador to Turkey and will work with full support from the U.S. State Department,” expressing his appreciation for the work that Tom Barrack has done and his ongoing readiness to serve his country.

Rubio had announced yesterday via his account on the “X” platform the end of Barrack’s mission in Syria, stating that it does not mean he is stepping away from regional issues.

He pointed out that he will continue to play a prominent leadership role within President Donald Trump’s administration on both the Syria and Iraq files, praising Barrack’s performance during the past period, describing his efforts as “invaluable,” and stating that his extensive experience, long-standing relationships, and deep understanding of the “America First” agenda will remain influential factors in achieving Washington’s political goals in the Middle East.

Rubio indicated that the U.S. administration relies on Barrack’s expertise in the upcoming phase, especially in the complex regional issues where American interests intersect with political and security developments in the region.

Tom Barrack was appointed as the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey in May 2025, before being tasked at the same time with following up on the Syrian file as a special envoy, taking on one of the most sensitive issues in U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.
