انتهت محاولة فرار هوليوودية لسائق أمريكي من قبضة الشرطة بنهاية مأساوية ومباغتة، بعد أن قفز داخل مستنقع في ولاية لويزيانا ليجد نفسه وجهاً لوجه أمام تمساح مفترس هاجمه وأصابه بجروح في ذراعيه، قبل أن تنجح السلطات في تحديد موقعه عبر الطائرات المسيّرة واعتقاله.
وتعود تفاصيل الحادثة إلى السابع من يونيو الجاري، حين تلقت شرطة ولاية لويزيانا بلاغات عن سيارة من طراز «تويوتا سوبرا» تسير بتهور شديد على الطريق السريع 10، قبل أن تصطدم بحاجز خرساني وينفجر أحد إطاراتها.
ونجحت دوريات الشرطة في محاصرة السيارة وإيقافها على الطريق السريع 310، ليتبين أن السائق يدعى «فيكتور م. ريفاس» (40 عاماً)، وكان يبدي علامات واضحة على القيادة تحت تأثير الكحول. وخلال بدء التحقيق معه، باغت ريفاس عناصر الأمن بالفرار ركضاً، قافزاً من الجزء المرتفع للطريق السريع مباشرة إلى منطقة مستنقعات مجاورة.
ودفعت الشرطة بتعزيزات أمنية لتمشيط المنطقة، ورُصد الهارب لاحقاً قرب الطريق السريع الأمريكي 61، ليعاود الكرة ويفر مجدداً إلى عمق المستنقع، وهناك وقع الهجوم؛ إذ باهته تمساح وعضه في ذراعيه.
ورغم الدماء والإصابة، واصل المتهم محاولة الهرب لبعض الوقت، حتى تمكنت الشرطة من رصد إحداثيات موقعه بدقة عبر الطائرات المسيّرة وإلقاء القبض عليه.
ونُقل ريفاس على الفور إلى مستشفى محلي تحت حراسة مشددة لتلقي العلاج، حيث أكدت الأطقم الطبية أن جروحه الناجمة عن عضة التمساح خطيرة لكنها لا تهدد حياته، في حين أشارت السلطات بسخرية إلى أن التمساح لم يصب بأي أذى.
وفور خروجه من المستشفى، يواجه الأربعيني قائمة ثقيلة من التهم القانونية تشمل القيادة تحت تأثير الكحول، والقيادة المتهورة وتخريب الممتلكات، ومقاومة السلطات والفرار من مكان الحادث.
An American driver’s Hollywood-style escape attempt from police ended tragically and unexpectedly after he jumped into a swamp in Louisiana, only to find himself face-to-face with a predatory alligator that attacked him and injured his arms, before authorities successfully located him via drones and arrested him.
The details of the incident date back to June 7, when the Louisiana State Police received reports of a Toyota Supra driving recklessly on Interstate 10, before crashing into a concrete barrier and blowing out one of its tires.
Police patrols successfully cornered the vehicle and stopped it on Highway 310, revealing that the driver was named “Victor M. Rivas” (40 years old), who showed clear signs of driving under the influence of alcohol. During the initial investigation, Rivas surprised the officers by fleeing on foot, jumping from the elevated part of the highway directly into a nearby swamp area.
The police dispatched reinforcements to comb the area, and the fugitive was later spotted near U.S. Highway 61, where he made another attempt to escape deeper into the swamp, and there he was attacked; an alligator bit him on his arms.
Despite the blood and injury, the suspect continued to try to escape for some time until the police were able to accurately track his location using drones and apprehend him.
Rivas was immediately transported to a local hospital under heavy guard for treatment, where medical teams confirmed that his injuries from the alligator bite were serious but not life-threatening, while authorities sarcastically noted that the alligator was unharmed.
Upon his release from the hospital, the forty-year-old faces a heavy list of legal charges including driving under the influence, reckless driving, property damage, resisting arrest, and fleeing the scene of the incident.
