An Australian scientific study has shown that swimming plays an effective role in alleviating lower back pain, surpassing other sports and physical exercises in terms of achieved results. This study was conducted by researchers from Macquarie University in Sydney and published in the “British Journal of Sports Medicine,” a journal specialized in sports medicine. It concluded that subjecting a group of volunteers to an eight-week swimming program resulted in a significant improvement in their mobility and a noticeable reduction in the intensity of their pain.

According to Deborah Weirham, who supervised the study, swimming reduced the participants’ pain by nearly 50%. A total of 76 adults participated in the experiment, aged between 26 and 74 years, all of whom had been suffering from lower back pain for at least three months before starting the program.

Mark Hancock, a researcher at the university’s Spine Pain Research Center, explained that swimming improves mobility and physical strength, as well as enhances the body’s efficiency in using oxygen during physical activity in general.
